The Maryland Energy Administration (MEA) has announced the new Commercial and Community Buildings Grant Program, which will award up to $103 million to eligible energy efficiency, electrification, renewable energy, and energy storage projects in fiscal year 2027.
The purpose of the Commercial and Community Buildings Grant Program is to facilitate building decarbonization, reduce energy costs, and identify economic development opportunities through clean energy deployment. The Program targets state and local government buildings, K-12 schools, and large and small commercial buildings, including those covered by the Maryland State and Montgomery County Building Energy Performance Standards (BEPS). Funding will be awarded across five tracks: Commercial Buildings, Local Government Buildings, Local Educational Agencies, Mechanical Insulation, and Community Resilience. The funding amount for most applications is determined per unit of greenhouse gas reduced across a proposed project’s lifetime.
MEA will accept applications through December 9, 2026, at 3:00 p.m. Eastern Time. Throughout September, the agency is hosting in-person and virtual information sessions to help prospective applicants understand the program’s requirements, eligibility criteria, evaluation metrics, and other details outlined in the Funding Opportunity Announcement.
