On October 8, 2024, MEA published a NOI for a Fiscal Year 2025 EVSE Equity Program and an RFI to inform and seek feedback from the public on the upcoming funding opportunity. The program is part of Governor Moore’s commitment to invest $23 million in EV charging infrastructure in low and moderate income, historically overburdened, and historically underserved communities in Maryland. MEA anticipates a total of $9-$11 million will be available for the EVSE Equity Program in Fiscal Year 2025 and will be issued via non-completive grants on a first come, first serve basis while funding is available. Eligible applicants include businesses and nonprofit entities that are in good standing with the Maryland State Department of Assessments and Taxation, and state, tribal, local, and municipal governments.
The program will be divided into three Areas of Interest including:
- EV Infrastructure Planning: These funds can be used to help offset the costs of retaining a consultant to develop a feasibility study to inform the development of EVSE installations.
- EV-Capable and EV-Ready Installations: These funds can assist applicants with construction costs of converting existing parking spaces for EV-capable or EV-ready parking spaces at multi-family housing properties.
- EVSE Installations: These funds can help applicants offset the costs of EVSE installation for Level 2, and Direct Current Fast Charging systems. Funds can also be used to offset the costs of installing storage such as bike racks or lockers with integrated charging for electric bike or electric scooters.
MEA is requesting feedback regarding the EVSE Equity Program from EV stakeholders, communities, community advocacy groups, local governments, other State agencies, and other relevant stakeholders.
