NASEO-NARUC-NGA-NASUCA Northeastern Regional Roundtable: Equity Considerations in Electricity Planning and Policy

Source: NASEO

On December 7 and 8, 2023, NASEO co-hosted the Northeastern Equity Roundtable in Boston, Massachusetts with the National Association of Regulatory Utility Commissioners (NARUC), the National Governors Association (NGA), and the National Association of State Utility Consumer Advocates (NASUCA). The event brought together State Energy Offices, Public Service Commissions, Governors' Offices, and consumer advocates from Connecticut, Maine, Massachusetts, New Hampshire, New York, Rhode Island, and Vermont. The focus of this workshop was to identify relevant programmatic, regulatory, and policy challenges and opportunities related to equity and to spotlight innovative equity work being done by states. The event also provided an opportunity for participants to exchange ideas and experiences and to develop an action plan to address equity issues related to selected electricity-focused topics. Featured speakers included leadership from the host state of Massachusetts – Department of Energy Resources, Executive Office of Energy and Environmental Affairs, and Department of Public Utilities – along with representatives from the Maine Governor’s Energy Office, New York State Energy Research & Development Authority, the Rhode Island Office of Energy Resources, the Connecticut Public Utilities Regulatory Authority, the Environmental Protection Agency, and Pacific Northwest National Laboratory. This meeting was the third in a series of regional equity roundtables, with three more planned to be held in the Mid-Atlantic, Southeast, and Central regions early 2024.
