The Lowe's Foundation has committed $50 million to help train 50,000 people for careers in the skilled trades the over the next five years. The Gable Grants Program will provide two-year grants to community and technical colleges and community-based nonprofit organizations to develop innovative training programs and career pathways that support workers, employers, and communities in the long-term. The grant program is designed to help the skilled trades industry meet growing demand for qualified workers. The Lowe's Foundation intends for the program to expand career opportunities for younger and more diverse tradespeople, with an emphasis on people from underrepresented communities.
Applications for the first phase of the grant program, which is focused on community and technical colleges, are open through April 10, 2023. The second phase of the program, which will focus on community-based nonprofits, will be announced in the second half of 2023. Interested applicants can attend an upcoming webinar to receive an overview of the application process.
